When I was growing up, my Mum always seemed to have a vase of flowers on the dinner table. To this day, there would be no better surprise for her than a bunch of flowers.
But, cut flowers die. It’s sad, hey?
That’s why I’ve grown to love indoor plants – because they never die! (That is, unless you entrust your brother to look after them while you’re away in the middle of summer and he avoids visiting for a week…. but that’s another story).
Indoor plants do not need much attention – most will happily sit in their pot looking pretty and only ask to be watered once a week. This, of course, needs to be more frequent if you get hot summers like we get in Perth! Some plants like more sun, others love being tucked away in the corner without direct sunlight. Your local nursery will be able to help you find the right plant for you!
To brighten up your Monday, here’s a list of ways you can bring the garden into your home!
-
String of Hearts – my all time favourite <3
-
Window Sill plants – indoor and outdoor (how cool are those Terrariums my bestie gave me?)
-
Herbs growing in the kitchen (I got this rail & pots from Ikea!)
-
Chilli plant in the corner
-
Terrariums (these are really easy to make yourself! Another blog coming soon on this!)
-
Cactus pots
-
Grow your own Avocado-plant from seed!
-
Add some life to your TV stand with indoor plants
-
If keeping plants alive sounds too hard, dry some roses out! These roses are from when Matthew proposed to me 3 years ago… how time flies.
-
And if the plants aren’t working for you, get a puppy. A home isn’t a home without animals!
Yes, that was just a shameless way to show off my brand new family member – everyone, meet Daisy! But on a serious note, if you can’t keep an indoor plant alive, you probably shouldn’t be buying a pet. Start with a cactus. They’re hard to kill.
I am totally addicted to indoor plants – they are taking over our house! Another goody is the zz plant – impossible to kill and thrives on neglect – it also thrives in dark spaces.
Um that sounds amazing Josephine!!!
