Summer is coming!
Yes, that’s right friends! The dreaded sunshine, and hot days lazing at the beach, and late nights spent grazing over BBQs and cheese platters and finally here!
Can you tell Summer is my absolute favourite season?? I am so excited. But! It’s not everyone’s cup of tea. And even though I love the heat and all the wonderful social events that come with it, I still have my kit of essential oils to ensure I continue to love it! (If you don’t know all that much about Essential Oils, read this post first!)

These are my top 5 oils that I don’t leave the house without in Summer!
1. Lemongrass
Lemongrass is my hero. It’s a natural bug repellent. Yep, that means I can avoid getting bitten without spraying myself with the sticky, weird-smelling, chemical-laden sprays. You can even use this oil to create cute sprays, roll-ons, or even add some to a “floating candle”-style bowl to keep the suckers off the dinner table! Yes, for a mosquito-magnet like myself, lemongrass is a must.
2. Lavender
On the off chance you do forget your lemongrass, and get bitten like crazy (or even just a bit), lavender is here to save the day! Apply it every couple of hours to any bug bite to take the sting away and soothe it! It’s saved me many-a-times from almost ripping my skin off from itching too hard!
Lavender is also GREAT after burns. This means when you accidentally get sunburned, you can apply lavender straight to the skin! Amazing! Seriously. Try it.
3. Lemon
Lemon is exactly what you need in your water bottle to help you stay hydrated and encourage you to keep drinking all that water, baby! Staying hydrated is obviously super important in summer, and lemon also aids your digestive system. Win win! It’s also the perfect smell to add to your diffuser in summer to really make you feel bright and bubbly. It’s also one of the MOST affordable oils out there – check it out!
4. Peppermint
How could I write about oils and not discuss my favourite oil, peppermint?? Well, I couldn’t. Peppermint is EXACTLY what you need to put on the back of your neck when you’re feeling hot and bothered. It’s really cooling, and helps with muscle tension too! You can also add it to your water bottle. Another win-win!
5. Eucalyptus blend
Finally, most mornings I put on my Young Living R.C. blend which is made up of Eucaplyptus oils and some other yummy smells to help with my hay fever. I know most people get it in spring, but for me, it’s summer pollen that does it! And this clears me right up!
This will be my first-ever summer WITH essential oils and I am so darn excited.
Basically, all the things I have previously struggled with are now easily dealt with by a little bottle in my purse! How much easier and simpler could it get?

Note: At Her Happy Heart we support the widespread use of essential oils and some of us use them in our homes. However it is currently an unregulated industry, which means that companies producing oils do not undergo the same rigorous testing and quality control that other commercial health-related products undergo, except within their own organizations. Always do your research to ensure that you are comfortable with any products that you use in your home, on yourself, and on your family.
