I partnered with Berry Beautiful Nails (Jamberry consultant) and received free product for this post. However all opinions are my own.
I’m not a nails person. Just throwing that out there.
I love the idea of being a nails person though! I’m constantly admiring other people’s nail polish. It’s my top conversation-starter with check-out chicks, hair dressers and bank tellers.
“Oooo! I love your nails!” will always start you off on the right foot with someone. It’s the global compliment that hits the perfect balance of noticing something personal about someone, but not being creepy. Unless you’re holding their hand and looking them in the eye when you say it. Don’t do that.
Anyway. The reason I’m not a nails person is:
a) I apply nail polish like a five-year-old whose hand has fallen asleep
b) My nails are the worst
The only time in my life I have ever had great nails is when I was on pre-natal vitamins. They grew out of control and were so strong! I stupidly thought “Yay! Guess this is my nails now!”
But no. The magic was all in the vitamins. And so my brief foray into being a nails person ended around the same time that my foray into being a majorly sleep-deprived person began. Life hey?
Well. Despite my identity as not-a-nails-person, I was pretty curious to try out the famous Jamberry nail wraps that everyone is so excited about! So I messaged my sister Steph and we planned a fun little Sunday afternoon nails day at her house. There were brownies and sunflowers and we made our nails pretty. It was fabulous.
I pulled out my shiny new Jamberry kit and we got started with preparing our nails. We buffed and pushed cuticles back and cleaned with alcohol swabs. My nails were already looking more pampered!
I’ll be honest, we were both nervous of stuffing up at first! But it was so easy. Here’s how we did it!
The wraps are like little stickers – you just pull them up off the sheet (using a wooden skewer, so you don’t get skin oils on them) and snip them off halfway.
Then you hold them in front of your little heater…
… apply them, trim them…
LOOK at that shiny gold! Gah! Love it!
… and file them down!
Paint on some cuticle oil, and you’re good to go!
We both breezed through our first hand (my left, Steph’s right – she’s a left-hander) and then got nervous again. How would we go using our opposite/weaker hands?
Just fine! I was pleasantly surprised to discover that I didn’t find it any harder applying the wraps using my left hand, which is pretty amazing because you should see what happens when I paint nail polish using my left hand! Ha!
On two whole hands of nails, I only had to re-do one finger – and that was because I had selected the wrong width wrap for that finger. Ooops!
At the end of our nails sesh, we were both stoked with how gorgeous our nails looked! We both have pretty short nails, and were amazed that actually, the Jamberry wraps still looked great on them! While I find that nail polish enhances the short stumpiness of my nails, the wraps were much more flattering – so if you’re a fellow short-nailed person, don’t let that stop you from giving them a go!
