You might have guessed that, with a name like Her Happy Heart, we are pretty into happiness around here. Gosh, it’s just so important for human beings to be happy! I truly believe it. So when I came across Ting Ting Jiang and her new project recently on social media, I got EXCITED. You can bet I dropped what I was doing and whipped up an email begging for some more information.
Ting Ting is the founder of Therabox, a monthly subscription she describes as “happiness in a box for all finders and seekers of an inspired and happy life”. Ting Ting is a practising therapist based in Los Angeles. In her words, “I’ve always been drawn to the human potential to live the life of their dreams. However, I also knew first hand and through my practice as a therapist all the roadblocks along this brutal yet beautiful journey of life.”
Describing herself as a “life-long over-achiever”, Ting Ting admits “I often ran on autopilot and forgot to enjoy the simple things in life. It wasn’t until I started practicing what I preached in therapy, and began using these happiness-boosting activities that I truly began finding more joy in life.” Rather than reaping the benefits just for herself, Ting Ting wanted to give others the opportunity to seek out joy in their lives. And so – Therabox was born.
Subscription boxes are all the rage at the moment, with products ranging from make-up to craft supplies to dinner ingredients! But a Therabox is more than just a fun monthly treat – the contents are specifically curated by therapists. Theraboxes contain a mix of research-inspired happiness-boosting activities (based on mindfulness, positive psychology and neuroscience) and high quality (locally crafted, artisan, natural and organic) products geared toward wellness such as essential oils, candles, skin care products, bath bombs, teas, feel-good novelties, books and creative therapeutic activities and guides.
Um. That sounds amazing.
And clearly, I’m not the only one who thinks so. Within two weeks of launching online, Ting Ting was delighted to reach her target goal of subsciption sales – a whole month ahead of schedule! “That was when I knew TheraBox was something that resonated with others, and just reconfirmed my beliefs about the product.”
As a woman in business, Ting Ting is kicking goals! When I asked what the highlight of her business journey has been so far, she struggled to answer. “So many amazing things have happened, it’s hard to pinpoint one! However, I can say that finding something I am extremely passionate about has been the most rewarding aspect of the journey. To pour my heart and soul into a company I believe in so much, and to have received such amazing feedback from our customers has been nothing short of a dream come true!”
There have also been some lessons learned along the way. “I’ve learned that you can be patient & a go-getter at the same time; but it’s definitely a fine balance! I’ve learned the importance of self-care (again!), and that I’m most creative and innovative when I’ve had enough rest, food, and time for myself! I’ve learned that starting your own business is tough, but anyone can do it if they’re passionate enough about their creation and wiling to put the long hours in.”
Ting Ting hopes to spread the Therabox love as far as she possibly can – “How amazing would it be to have happiness junkies all over the world unite together to care for themselves, nurture their happiness, and grow together?” Future hopes and plans involve a thriving online community centred around the philosophies of Therabox, with members supporting and encouraging each other in their happiness journies. And as if spreading happiness all over the world isn’t enough, she is also super keen to start giving back as soon as possible. “In the very near future, I hope to find ways to give back to the world and get involved in nonprofit organizations. The issue right now is there’s so many that I want to get involved with, that it’s hard to decide which direction to go!”
Ting Ting believes in the power of happiness to keep human beings healthy and strong – both physically and mentally. But she is quick to point out that happiness is a practise. She explains “It takes work to be a happier person – just like it takes work to be healthy. You have to watch the food you eat, actions you take, etc. if you’re trying to live a healthy life. It’s the exact same for happiness. Watch your thoughts, actions, and environment, for they all impact your happiness. Think of happiness as a garden. In order for it to grow, you have to give it lots of sunlight, water, and nurture on a daily basis! Sometimes it’ll be your season, and your happiness will grow exponentially… and other times, you just have to weather the storm or drought. However, if you keep watering the plants and nurturing it despite rain/shine, the flowers of happiness will inevitably grow.”
I love this mentality!! And if you do too, I have some great news:
