I truly appreciate a gorgeously styled event. My Pinterest is filled with event inspo. At one point I even started a wedding board – a few years after my own wedding, mind you! – simply because I just loved seeing how people style their big day! Unfortunately my own styling skills are pretty lacklustre, and my events and parties look a little homely. Truthfully, my wedding reception decor was kind of a mess! I was going for vibrant pops of colour, but ended up with funky dyed cane branches (from Gone Bazaar) in cheap vases (also from Gone Bazaar), and very non-wedding-y black tablecloths. I don’t regret getting married at 22, but I sure wish Pinterest had been around back then to guide my bridely decisions!
Anyway, I digress. Why are we even here? Because I want to introduce you to someone who creates the most stunning events I have ever seen – folks, meet Sophia Vinten! This woman is bursting with creative talent, and has channeled that talent into a fairly new business venture: Sophiamonique Weddings + Events. Her business is an innovative wedding planning and styling company which coordinates and designs completely gorgeous weddings and events around Perth.
Sophia has five years experience in the event and wedding industry, and got her foot in the door by working for a hire company, spending her weekends loading and delivering chairs, carpets and DIY items to venues across Perth.
“I knew I wanted to have more creative control over weddings as I’ve always loved design and style, stemming from my artistic days when I was a practising Graphic Designer and Artist.”

But it took some convincing (and a whole lot of bravery) before Sophia was ready to take the plunge and start her own business.
“I had family and friends and vendors endless encouragement to start my own business and it took about 6 months before gathering the courage to do so.”
Starting your own business is not for the faint-of-heart, she cautions. The moment Sophia decided to start her business, she hit the ground running. “This job isn’t at all glamourous; it’s a lot of hours in an office, hours on the computer, back and forth with figures, quotes, invoices, immense organisation and remembering to not let any hiccups or stresses overcome you.”

Wondering what it’s like to work for yourself? A typical workday for Sophia looks like this:
“I work from an office at home and designate Tuesdays to Saturdays to my business. My day starts by getting ready as though I am leaving to go to work (eat breakfast, shower, get dressed).
I allow the first hour and a half on emails. Responding to any I sent out the day before, checking up on my brides and clients, sending out requests for quotes and invoices. The morning is usually spent ensuring all my brides are on track with their planning and aren’t stressing about anything. Mornings are great to jump on any issues that may have arisen.
After lunch and the early afternoon I leave free for face to face consultations and meetings. Whether this be with clients, brides, vendors or heading to a hire companies warehouse to check out their latest products!
I find I’m most creative in the late afternoon, so this is when I’m either drawing up floor plans, ceremony and reception designs and customised ideas for stationery or installations. Once night falls, I like to enjoy a wine whilst spending a couple of hours on Pinterest, as my clients all have secret Pinterest boards full to the brim of their wedding inspiration, style and ideas.
If I have a weekend wedding or event, I spend Fridays picking up any final details I need to take to the wedding, pack the car in the afternoon and ensure I get a good dinner and sleep ready for a productive 10 til midnight day the day of the wedding!”

Whew! Sounds full-on, doesn’t it? But the trade-off is that she absolutely loves what she does – and nothing feels better than getting to the end of a wedding and receiving heartfelt thanks from the couple.
“Their gratitude for the work I’ve done towards the most special day in their lives reassures me that this is why this is my job.”
She also just genuinely loves a good wedding!
“I love contributing to a day that they (hopefully!) only go through once in their life. I love watching the Groom’s face as he first sees his bride appear at the end of the aisle, and I love the pure happiness and excitement of the Bridal Party and family on the day. I love creating beautifully styled, inspiring atmospheres and events which guests can’t stop talking about throughout the night! And above all things, who doesn’t love love?!”
Sophia notes that one of the keys to running a successful events business is a good relationship with vendors in the industry. Aside from working with vendors on events, during quieter periods (for example Winter, when less people are getting married) Sophia collaborates with other Perth businesses on styled shoots, creating “faux weddings” that she can style exactly how she wishes.
“I love booking new clients, and with their weddings 12 to 24 months in advance, the long term goal is to just continue booking new clients and planning and creating their special days, bringing my creative ideas and styling to life.”
Personally I’m majorly impressed by Sophia’s crazy work ethic and her natural creative talent – and I have no doubt that we will one day see her as one of the major players in Perth’s wedding and event scene!
Aside from weddings, Sophia coordinates and styles all kinds of events, including engagement parties, birthday parties, baby showers, corporate events and dinners. Connect with her via the following channels for your next event (or you know, just spend hours trawling her stunning Instagram feed!):
